Ali Express - Search Product by Image
I was in the mood for a bit of online shopping and I was checking out some cool men's fashion trends in few other sites like Pinterest for ideas. I saw one hoodie which was really cool and I loved it.
I wanted to buy that hoodie and so I started searching for that in Myntra, Flipkart etc. To my disappointment, I couldn't find such a hoodie.
Next, I went on to AliExpress. It had a image based search feature along with it's search bar. I tried that out. I chose the screenshot which I took from Pinterest and I searched for the hoodie. To my amazement, there were instant hits. I found the hoodies which were exactly the same as the one I wanted.
I wondered if this was just an one-off success and so I tested it out with more screenshots of clothing taken from all over the web. There were successful hits everytime. Sometimes even if the exact clothing is not available, it did show me really close alternatives. I did try the image based search in Myntra but it did not produce any proper results.
1. Image search when implemented properly can produce perfect results. Some people prefer taking photos of dresses they see in shops and then later searching for it online to compare prices. Some people like me also prefer browsing the web for fashion ideas and then searching our preferred style in online stores. For such people this feature is such a boon.
2. The same feature is implemented in Myntra but it's the worst. I took a screenshot from their own app and image searched it but guess what? The results were totally mismatching.
It's already perfect!
