BookMyShow - UI Revamp
Being a movie buff, I use the BookMyShow ticketing app quite frequently as it provides an easy way to book movie tickets from the comfort of your house. As a frequent user, I found it quite frustrating when the app got a major UI revamp and too many new ticket booking features. Following are few of the observations in the UI interactions that I found to be inconsistent and lead to a bad UX:
Swiping left/right to change the page navigation
1 - swiping left on home page (All) does not do anything, whereas swiping left/right on other pages changes the page. example, swiping left on 'Movies' page will take you to 'Events'.
2 - There are already other elements on the home page that use the swiping feature.
3 - On the movies page, the swipe effect changes the main page, but there are other sub sections on the page (Now showing, Coming Soon, Exclusive) which do not change by swiping but have to be clicked.
Inconsistency in subsections
1 - On clicking the subsections on movies page, there is difference in behavior. Clicking on the first 2 sections only changes the view below, whereas clicking on the third section, takes you to a completely new page.
Inconsistency in icons
1 - Other discrepancy I observed is the back arrow on the top action bar for different pages.
2 - The arrow is different in size and shape on the Exclusive page, movie filter page, Offers page
1 - Inconsistent interactions in the UI are confusing for the user.
2 - There should be a consistency in the visual icons used on different pages for same type of action.
1 - When making major changes to the app UI, special care should be taken for user interactions so as not to frustrate the existing users. Also, if too many interactions and elements are involved, there should be a focus on simplicity as far as possible.
