TED - Surprise Me
Yesterday night I was thinking about to watch some good and short videos before going to sleep. I thought to watch something on Ted. After that I opened Ted app and I was confused about what to watch? Then I clicked on bulb icon(Surprise Me) and It showed some categories such as Funny, Informative and Inspiring. I choose “Inspiring” category and then I saw a screen where it asked “how much time do you have?” with an interactive clock in center. First time, I was surprised. But I realized immediately that It will show me the videos which are less than or equal to 5 minutes. The clock was designed very good so that anyone can understand and use it clearly.
At the bed time or any free time user can select the time and It will show only that videos. It was great experience indeed.
- Ted app - Surprise Me feature is all about reducing cognitive load. If user is an explorer and does not have clarity on what he/she wants to see then this is a best solution for them.
- Simple and intuitive solution for watching video based on availability of time.
What could be improvised:
- It presents only video of that particular time frame. Let’s say if you choose 10 minutes then you could see videos of 10 minutes only. It would not cover videos of 5 minutes. Perhaps, it should present all videos having length of 10 minutes and less.
