Wynk Music - Music Listing Experience
I’m an avid music listener and I usually stream songs through Saavn while working or in leisure time. Today there was some problem with the Saavn App and I decided to use it as an excuse to try out a new streaming app (because usually, I’m too lazy to try out new things!). I decided on Wynk Music.
After downloading and installing the app on my mobile, I played a song. During the middle of the first song, I decided I wanted to listen to another one. So I searched for it, then tapped the song to play it and then went back to my work. To my confusion, the first song was still playing and the second one did not come on.
I again searched for it, tapped it and then only I noticed the message - ‘Song added to Queue’. I did not expect that.
I expected that the song would play immediately when I tapped on it. The option to play the song immediately - ‘Play Now’ - was present in the side ‘More Options' menu.
Usually, whenever a user searches for a song and taps it, he/she will want that to play immediately. That is the way we have been used to in all other apps and that is the way most people will like it. Changes in user experience to make completing tasks simpler are necessary but changes just for the sake of it is an unhealthy practice. Even more so, when it ends up spoiling the user experience!
1. My opinion is that ‘Add to Queue’ option need not be given so much priority here and it can be taken over to the ‘More Options’ menu.
2. ‘Play Now’ should be given more priority and it should be executed as soon as the song is tapped.
